As part of the 43rd Baden-Württemberg Literature Days, a reading performance featuring Anne-Dore Krohn and Denis Scheck will take place. Hardly anyone has spent as much time in spa resorts as Franz Kafka. Since he was diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis in 1917, he repeatedly went to sanatoria for recovery, spending several weeks there. During this time, he came into contact with natural healing practices, nudism, and ascetic lifestyles. Journalist Anne-Dore Krohn and ZDF's literary guru Denis Scheck present in their "Kafka Review" some lesser-known facets of the Prague genius and put common clichés to the test. Did you know that Franz Kafka discovered a vegetarian cookbook in a sanatorium, which he then followed for his diet? (Cotton soup! Oven pudding!) That it was Franz Kafka who invented the answering machine? And that he, along with his friend Max Brod, conceived a book series that was something like the Lonely Planet guide of his time? A delightful and surprising exploration of the continent of Kafka.
