Advanced course on varieties: similar varieties & baking varieties

The advanced seminar is aimed at participants who have already completed an introductory course or who have a good prior knowledge of variety identification. The aim of the seminars is to refresh and consolidate existing knowledge and to focus more intensively on interesting aspects of pomology in topics that change annually. There is also plenty of opportunity for practical identification exercises. This course covers two topics: varieties that are easily confused, i.e., which apple varieties are particularly similar and how to identify them with certainty, and fruit varieties that are particularly suitable for baking. In addition to apples and pears, we will also look at plum varieties. Each participant will receive seminar materials on these topics, which can be collected in the accompanying seminar folder. If available, please bring the "Farbatlas alte Obstsorten" (Color Atlas of Old Fruit Varieties), published by Ulmer Verlag, as identification literature. You are welcome to bring unknown varieties (5 fruits each) for joint identification. Markus Zehnder from Balingen was a specialist advisor for fruit growing and horticulture at the Zollernalbkreis district office for many years and is an experienced pomologist. His passion is old fruit varieties, their flavors, and possible uses.
