The Gallery at Schlossbergtor in Voitsberg will host a memorial exhibition in honor of the Voitsberg painter Grete Schermann-Gußmack (1920–2011) starting January 16, 2026. The opening will begin at 7:00 PM with greetings from Mayor Mag. (FH) Bernd Osprian. Prof. Dr. Ernst Lasnik will pay tribute to the artistic work of the watercolorist, whose pieces are deeply connected to Styria. Schermann-Gußmack initially trained as a teacher before studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and the Graz School of Applied Arts. Her works, often sensitive representations of landscapes, draw on the tradition of topographical memory images. As Prof. Dr. Richard Rubinig once wrote, she remained true to her artistic language: “Grete Schermann-Gußmack has remained true to her art of watercolor with memorable landscapes from Styria.” The musical accompaniment for the opening will be provided by the Wöllmißberg Singing Circle. The exhibition will be on display until the end of February and offers a quiet glimpse into the works of an artist who was deeply connected to the region. A subtle homage to an artistic life – right in the Graz experience region.
