FALB | HOLUB | SATZINGER

The trio Falb / Holub / Satzinger was founded in 2017 for a concert at the "JazzWerkstatt Wien Festival." Bernd Satzinger (double bass) and Mark Holub (drums) met when Holub arrived in Vienna in 2012, and they had the plan from the very beginning to create something musical together. Satzinger suggested Viola Falb (saxophone), with whom he has a long-standing collaboration (e.g., FS:eins). Following the studio concert, they performed several more concerts in Austria. When Falb brought up the possibility of recording at the "Hotel Pupik" in Schrattenberg, they decided to produce the album "A Room For You." The recordings took place in a beautiful, old farmhouse in Styria, where the trio retreated with their sound engineer for three days to record many hours of music.

They brought along compositional sketches, concepts, and a strong desire for improvisational expression. After the recordings, there was a lengthy and meticulous selection process until ultimately the 15 tracks that made it onto the album remained. The music on "A Room For You" moves between calming soundscapes, hectic free jazz passages, and concrete melodic moments, with transitions often occurring within just a few moments.

The various, very distinct musical languages of the three protagonists combine to create a compact overall sound that leaves a lasting impression, as things are addressed directly here and no compromises are made.
