On Saturday, April 4th, Johnny Rawls, one of the great names in American soul and blues, will be performing at the Igel, Folk Club Waidhofen. The singer and guitarist from Mississippi has represented the deeply rooted Southern Soul for decades, seamlessly blending blues, gospel, and rhythm & blues.
Rawls began his career in the 1960s, working early on as a musical director for O.V. Wright, and developed his own distinctive style from there: warm, earthy, full of feeling, and without any showiness. His voice carries life experience, and his songs tell stories of love, loss, hope, and dignity. Johnny Rawls is considered one of the defining figures of soul-blues and has received multiple awards – not least for his intense live performances.
