In the program "Ladies First," the TrioVanBeethoven primarily focuses on outstanding female figures in music from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel, for example, confronted the resentments of her time with an indomitable creative will and artistic strength. Despite all obstacles, she produced over 460 works, including the piano trio op. 11, which can easily hold its own against the famous trio by her brother. Similarly challenging was the path of Rebecca Clarke, who was born in London and became the first woman to enter the composition class at the Royal College of Music in 1907. Her emotionally charged and expressive piano trio is among the best that British chamber music has to offer.
