With a loud bang, the Kulturkreis Sulzfeld will kick off the new concert season in the Bürgerhauskeller on January 23, 2026! For the fourth time, the Stuttgart-based Sally Grayson will visit the Sulzfeld concert cellar, having built a loyal fanbase over the years. The singer-songwriter, who grew up in the southwest of the US state of Michigan (vocals, guitar, and accordion), will be accompanied by two other musicians on bass and drums. Sally Grayson has since shed her pseudonym Black Swift and presents a new album full of mystical Desert Rock. Clashing guitars, pedal steel guitar, and shimmering reverb evoke the vastness of the American Southwest and the kind of loss and longing that only the highways of the desert can soothe. "The Darkness In Me" is a passionate appeal to all those who have experienced heartache, shared their inner darkness, and still seek love and connection in the expanses of the desert. It is a Western-Gothic romance filled with mysterious paths, long sunsets, enigmatic strangers, and an unbearable longing and sorrow that drive the journey through the starry night. The album poses questions that many of us grapple with: How can so much suffering and so much love coexist? How can we find hope for a new beginning amidst so many systemic prejudices and pains? What awaits us around the next bend and over the next hill? The album, recorded in 2023 in Tucson, Arizona, was produced by Gabriel Sullivan, who has previously collaborated with Xixa, Giant Sand, Howe Gelb, and Calexico. Musically, it merges Sally Grayson's preferences for swampy blues rock and Americana desert rock—her influences range from early Nick Cave to Townes Van Zandt and The Walkabouts, whose melancholic tones are reminiscent in many of the new songs. The collaboration with Gabriel Sullivan, whose productions exude a strong Western-Gothic atmosphere, has resulted in a unique sound mixture. The outcome is an album that is clearly Dark Americana but possesses enough passionate punk rock undertones and a spirit of experimentation, characteristics that also defined the earlier albums of Black Swift. Tickets for the event on January 23, 2026, are priced at €13 in advance and €15 at the box office. Doors open at 7:30 PM. Info and ticket phone: 07269/78-0. Reservation is strongly recommended!
