Vanja Sky is Croatia's answer to Sheryl Crow and Norah Jones. Five years after learning to play the guitar, Vanja recorded her debut album with renowned artists from the international blues scene. Soon after, a very successful follow-up work titled "Woman Named Trouble" was released. Now it is time for the release of her third album, "reborn." The blues was originally the spark for the young pastry chef from the coastal town of Umag. After attending a concert by Croatian guitar hero Denis Makin and his band "The Screaming Wheels," the barely of age Vanja became obsessed with the idea that she had found her true calling in blues and rock. She initially moved to Zagreb to immerse herself deeply in the local music scene. The highlights of her meteoric career so far include close collaborations with greats like Bernard Allison and Mike Zito. The album "Woman Named Trouble" was selected by ROCKS MAGAZIN as one of the best albums released in 2020, alongside releases from AC/DC, Deep Purple, Bob Dylan, and Bruce Springsteen. In 2022, Vanja Sky released a duet with singer Carl Sentance from the band Nazareth and the solo band of Deep Purple keyboardist Don Airey. In mid-2023, Vanja released her new album "reborn," featuring special guests Gerry McAvoy (Rory Gallagher) and Ric Lee (Ten Years After). For the new album "reborn" and all upcoming tours, Vanja is collaborating with the well-known German guitarist Günter Haas. With "reborn," Vanja has arrived in the rock scene without losing her roots in blues. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the song "I’d Love To Change The World," Vanja invited Ric Lee, drummer, Woodstock legend, and founding member of Ten Years After, into the studio to re-record the song with him. Traditionally, Vanja continues her homage to Rory Gallagher on "reborn." So far, each of her albums has featured a song by Rory. In the re-recording of "I Take What I Want," none other than Gerry McAvoy took over the bass part. He played alongside Rory Gallagher for over 20 years. She bridges the gap from the old guard of blues traditionalists to a youthful audience. From participating in the "Ruf Blues Caravan" with Bernard Allison and Mike Zito, to her own headline tours, collaborative sessions with Humble Pie guitarist Clem Clempson, Colosseum singer Chris Farlowe, and "The God of Hellfire" Arthur Brown, as well as supporting rock legends like Suzi Quatro, UFO, and Woodstock icons Canned Heat, her live performance is evolving. This caught the attention of the team from the legendary German television show ROCKPALAST from WDR, which aired a full live concert featuring British talent Krissy Matthews as a special guest on guitar. Vanja Sky is a frequently booked act at major international festivals such as the Rother Blues Days, Vallemaggia Magic Blues Festival, Fehmarn Festival, Moulin Blues Festival, Megève Blues Festival, Citternova Blues Festival, New Assen Blues Festival, Le Buis Festival, and the Rory Gallagher Tribute Festival. An absolute top act that you should not miss.
