Excursion "Living Space Orchard Meadow - Extensive Grassland Management"

"Look at what is growing there!" During this excursion with biologist Matthias Grusling, we focus on what grows beneath the fruit trees. Matthias Grusling from the Office for Animal and Landscape Ecology Jürgen Deuschle shares valuable insights about the ecological relationships within the structurally rich habitat of the traditional orchard. We take a look at biodiversity and learn to classify the different grassland types based on indicator plants. Furthermore, we discuss specific examples in the landscape regarding the impacts of different management practices (e.g., mowing or grazing) on species diversity and biodiversity, as well as how the green cuttings can be utilized. At the end, each participant will receive a written handout on the topic, including recommendations for developing a species-rich undergrowth.
