Iphigenia's Revenge - Jungle Vienna

Locked away in her childhood room, Iphigenia awaits her execution. In several attempts, she tries to tell us her story and how it came to this: It all began with her great-great-grandfather Tantalus and a family curse. Two generations later, her father Agamemnon instigates the Trojan War through the supposed abduction of Helen, angering the goddess Artemis. According to the seer Calchas, the wrath of Artemis can only be appeased by Agamemnon sacrificing his daughter Iphigenia. And that is exactly what is about to happen.

In her captivity, Iphigenia seeks ways to avert her fate. Can her father's heart be softened? Can the masses outside the prison be mobilized for a revolution? Is there a way out of the narrative that only knows women as victims, saints, or witches? Who is Iphigenia beyond patriarchal myths and imposed identities?

Actress and author Lilly-Marie Vogler tears down the curtain of ancient myth and opens a new feminist chapter in the 2,400-year history of its reception. In doing so, she reflects on images of women, comments on expectations and attributions of the patriarchy, and mercilessly confronts a male-dominated world.
