The amateur actor Emil is eager to land the lead role, but the path to it leads through a quirky date. To help his director out of a bind, the down-to-earth plumber must pretend to be the romantic poet for the wealthy Constanze. The scene of the chaos: the regular pub "Zum einsamen Hirschen." Amid too much liquid courage and nonsensical rhymes, Emil's wife Christa suddenly appears. The determined landlady Elke and a bunch of eccentric singles make the mess even worse.
