Max Bruch: Concerto for Clarinet, Viola, and Orchestra Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 4 A summer evening, an orchestra, great works: no summer without music! **
When the Lake Constance Chamber Orchestra performs in August 2026, classical music will become a shared experience. Under the baton of Gero Wittich, the ensemble is preparing in Gaienhofen for its concerts in Friedrichshafen and Beuren an der Aach – with openness, precision, and an audible joy of playing.
What began in 2002 as a circle of friends is now a powerful symphony orchestra: the BKO brings together professional musicians from renowned ensembles such as the German Radio Philharmonic, the Badische Staatskapelle Karlsruhe, and the National Theater Orchestra Mannheim with music students and highly committed amateur musicians. Different life paths, a common goal: music of the highest standard – lively, intense, and authentic. The program features two works that tell of inner tension and musical dialogue in very different ways. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4 is one of his most personal works. It is marked by the idea of inevitable fate and his very unhappy marriage, which he had entered into shortly before. Between dramatic force and lyrical intimacy, a symphony full of contrasts unfolds, challenging the orchestra in all its colors and offering the audience immediate emotional access.
Max Bruch's Concerto for Clarinet, Viola, and Orchestra provides a chamber music counterpoint. Two instruments that often remain in the background are given equal prominence here. The clarinet and viola lead the way through the three movements, alternating between parallel lines and dialogic interplay, accompanied by the orchestra. The soloists are Benjamin Rivinius, principal violist of the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie and long-time member of the BKO, and Lyuta Kobayashi, winner of the 2022 German Music Competition and principal clarinetist of the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie – two outstanding musical personalities of the present day.
This concert thus combines symphonic grandeur and intimate dialogue, reflecting the core of the Lake Constance Chamber Orchestra: making music together out of curiosity, dedication, and genuine enthusiasm for music. Or, as the *Südkurier* aptly puts it: "Inspiring music that gets under your skin."
