Handshakers. Huggers. The worst are the cheek kissers. The brilliant geoscientist Ever Montgomery lives in a world of rules, logic, and rationality. Interpersonal dynamics, on the other hand, are a mystery to him. As a person on the autism spectrum, he avoids eye contact and touch. In this respect, nothing could be more unbearable for him than dancing. Yet an award ceremony forces him to learn just that.
His neighbor Senga Quinn, on the other hand, has dedicated her entire life to dance—until a serious injury threatens to end her career forever. When Ever asks her for dance lessons on the recommendation of the janitor, she initially declines. But curiosity wins out.
Directed by Folke Braband, we experience in The Dance Lesson a narrative that is as entertaining as it is sensitive about the courage to live our lives—and perhaps even to change them.
