Joseph Haydn-Gasse 19 & 21, 7000 Eisenstadt

Lecture by Mag. Elke Ferderbar, Karin Lehner, and Ilse Platzer
Death was a significant concern for people during the Baroque period, even during their lifetimes. The thought of Memento Mori – Remember that you must die – was ever-present. Lavish funerals became increasingly important. Mourning scaffolds were at the center of noble burials. The skull of Joseph Haydn, who passed away in 1809, was not laid to rest with the rest of his body in the coffin until 1954. Where had it been until then?

Duration: approx. 75 minutes
