As part of the annual theme BLOOM, the Universalmuseum Joanneum invites you to dive into the fascinating world of flowers – as a symbol, as an art form, and as an emotional archive of our lives. At the Folk Museum, you will encounter the impressive installation Unforgettable by the artist Regula Dettwiler: thousands of deceptively realistic flowers come together to form a colorful bouquet – each one a silent bearer of memory for a person.
At Kunsthaus Graz, you will then discover what stories pressed flowers can preserve. We will talk about the "Herbarium of Feelings," the organizational systems of nature, and the rich symbolism of the floral world in art. And did you know that humans are 30% related to dandelions?
1st Station:
Visit to the Folk Museum at Paulustor
Meeting point: 12:30 PM, Museum ticket office
The journey begins with a guided tour of the exhibition lasting about 30 minutes. The focus is on the work Unforgettable by Regula Dettwiler in the Antonius Church – a monumental bouquet made of thousands of flowers that were once dedicated to people. After that, we will continue on foot to Kunsthaus Graz.
2nd Station:
Guided tour of Kunsthaus Graz
Start: 1:00 PM, Duration: approx. 45 minutes
At Kunsthaus, you will immerse yourself in the poetic world of pressed flowers. We will discuss floral memory objects, emotional herbaria, organizational systems, and the symbolism of flowers in art. Surprising facts about nature – such as our relationship with dandelions – included.
3rd Station:
3-course menu at Landhauskeller
A flower-inspired menu forms a delightful conclusion. After visiting the two BLOOM exhibitions at the Folk Museum and Kunsthaus Graz, you can enjoy the day starting at 2:00 PM at Landhauskeller. There, you will discover a "blooming" three-course menu, where flowers not only please the eye but also enchant your palate. Edible, dried flowers add delicate accents and make each dish a special experience.
