Sparks Oberuhldingen

The bonfire of the Funkenbuben Oberuhldingen will take place this year on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 7:00 PM at the railway embankment near Hofgut Möking in Seefelden. Join us as the traditional bonfire is lit, as usual, on the weekend after Ash Wednesday - an ancient fire custom that is still widespread today in the Swabian-Alemannic region. The origin of this custom is unclear, although it has been documented exceptionally early. However, it is assumed that the bonfire dates back to a pagan Germanic tradition for driving away winter. The bonfire is organized by the Funkenbuben Oberuhldingen, who construct the bonfire from wood and adorn it with a crafted witch at the tip of the bonfire - if this witch falls victim to the flames, which is said to bring good luck, the joy is immense. In reference to the Alemannic Carnival, the burning of a witch doll on the bonfire was introduced in the 19th century.
