Lichens in Orchard Meadows (Excursion)

Dr. Holger Thüs is the deputy head of the Botany Department at the Natural History Museum Stuttgart, where he serves as the curator for fungi, mosses, and algae. In this online lecture, he will introduce us to the world of lichens. During the excursion, both apple and pear trees will be examined as hosts for typical lichen communities, the differences in growth in various areas of the trees will be explained, and the influence of the orchard environment on the climate of the fruit meadow will be illustrated using lichens as indicator organisms.
