Kroke
Originally primarily associated with Klezmer creations, Kroke now moves through various genres. As graduates of the Music Academy in Krakow, but also as searching artists, the three musicians did not shy away from experimenting with jazz and contemporary music. The artists draw inspiration from ethnic music from around the world, but always enrich their works with their own improvisations. Thus, Kroke creates its own style that transcends boundaries, time, and forms, which has not only been noticed by the audience but also appreciated by artists worldwide.
Inspired by the Kroke concert, Steven Spielberg invited the band to Jerusalem to perform at the "Survivors Reunion" ceremony for the survivors of Schindler's List. Thanks to Peter Gabriel, the group participated in the WOMAD Festival in the UK. This meeting also led to joint recording sessions at the Real World Studios. Parts of the recordings were later used by Peter Gabriel on the album "Long Walk Home," which was the soundtrack for the film "Rabbit-Proof Fence."
Kroke's piece "The Secrets of The Life Tree" was released on the soundtrack of David Lynch's "Inland Empire." The encounter between Kroke and Nigel Kennedy resulted in a collaborative work—the album "East Meets East." In recent years, the ensemble has also worked with Anna Maria Jopek, Edyta Geppert, Tomasz Stanko, Maja Sikorowska, Krzysztof Herdzin, the Norwegian band Tindra, Spanish violinist Diego Galaz, Mongolian singer Urna Chahar Tugchi, as well as with the orchestras Sinfonietta Cracovia, Aukso, Västerås Sinfonietta, Burgos Symphony Orchestra, and the German Film Orchestra Babelsberg.
"What draws me so successfully into the music of Kroke is this spiritual reality they have... it is the honesty and sincerity in their music." — Nigel Kennedy
