"The Bergland Dairy is, according to the judgment of all, the most modern in all of Austria," reported the Neue Warte am Inn on June 7, 1928, on the occasion of the visit of the then Minister of Agriculture Andreas Thaler to Ottenhausen. The vision of Johann Edthofer, a cheese maker in Haselpfaffing, had become a reality, and the farmers of Feldkirchen finally had their local dairy.
However, the joy over the new flagship business was short-lived; the economic situation and the banking crash of 1930 severely impacted the company, and Johann Edthofer lost his entire fortune as a result. Nevertheless, his dream endured far beyond his death: Berglandmilch today operates the largest cheese factory in Austria in Ottenhausen.
