Through the historic town center of Aurich

A tour with Philipp Domke and Erwin Schlag The town of Aurich is beautifully nestled in the narrow Kreuzbachtal and has a long and eventful history. Aurich was first mentioned in documents in the 11th century and subsequently developed into a small but significant settlement. The central focus of the town remains the church, whose tower originally served as a defensive tower for the Lords of Aurich. This connection of religious and defensive function highlights the uncertain times of the Middle Ages, when protection and defense played a major role. In 1389, Aurich came into the possession of the Duke of Württemberg, which significantly influenced the town's further political and economic development. During a walk through Aurich, the most important historical buildings will be highlighted, including the church, the rectory, the town hall, as well as the old and new schools. The old town center with its developed structures will also be examined more closely. The tour offers a vivid insight into the history of the town and shows how Aurich has evolved over the centuries.
