A tour with Andrea Majer and Eberhard Steinhilber Water is a true multitasker and has always been an indispensable foundation of urban life. Not only bathhouse operators and washerwomen relied on a reliable water supply, but also numerous trades such as millers, tanners, and brewers. Without water, many of these activities would not have been possible. The wells within the city walls provided the population with the necessary drinking and utility water for centuries and were central places of everyday life. Strategically located, Vaihingen developed along a river that not only served as a life elixir but also represented an important transportation and trade route. Goods were transported along it, contacts were maintained, and economic relationships were established. At the same time, water repeatedly posed challenges for the city, such as flooding or issues related to water quality. The tour vividly illustrates the diverse role that water has played over time in the development of Vaihingen. Through historical sites, buildings, and preserved traces, it becomes clear how closely the lives of people were connected to water and how much it shaped the urban landscape, economy, and daily life.
