The Loom – a Genius Invention of the Neolithic Era

Some masterpieces of the human spirit may seem almost banal or have become so commonplace or antiquated that they have slipped from the collective memory of society. While the deliberate creation of fire, the wheel, the printing press, or the first steam engines are integral parts of any summary of global technological history, other "wonders" receive little to no mention—despite the fact that survival (or even thriving) without them would have sometimes been impossible for human civilization. One such achievement is the wooden weight loom, whose origins can be traced back to the beginning of the Neolithic period over 8,000 years ago. It was this invention that allowed humanity, over millennia, to produce intricate weaving works such as carpets, skirts, shirts, and other textiles in comparatively short periods of time.
