Course on the Botany of the Understory in Traditional Orchard Meadows

This event focuses on the undergrowth of traditional orchards. Siegfried Demuth will provide an introduction to the diversity of the most species- and flower-rich meadows. Suitable identification literature will be presented, and the characteristic species of traditional orchards will be discussed. In a lecture, Siegfried Demuth will guide participants through the diversity of meadows from the Tauberland in the north, across the Swabian Jura, to the Black Forest in the south. Each of these landscapes has its own unique characteristics, resulting in a distinct flora and fauna, which is also reflected in the species inventory of the various meadow types. During the subsequent field excursion, different meadow types and their characteristic species will be introduced. Participants are encouraged to bring their own meadow plants for identification.
