Excursion: "Discover Neckarhausen Castle and Gardens"

Neckarhausen Castle and its gardens are among the most impressive, yet today lesser-known, examples of the history of the Electoral Palatinate. On this excursion, participants will follow in the footsteps of Franz Albert Leopold von Oberndorff, the governor of the Electoral Palatinate, for whom Neckarhausen served as an important residence in the 18th century. As part of expert-led tours, the historic interiors of the palace will first be explored. This provides insights into the architecture, use, and political significance of the palace within the administration of the Electoral Palatinate. The tour then continues through the palace gardens, whose design and development are closely linked to courtly culture. The tour combines historical aspects with insights into the park’s botanical features as well as its flora and fauna, with a deliberate emphasis on the historical context. The excursion combines architectural history, garden art, and regional history, bringing to life a culturally and historically significant ensemble on the Neckar. **Information about the excursion** 1. **Meeting point for the bus transfer from Schwetzingen to Neckarhausen:** Karl-Wörn-Haus, Museum of the City of Schwetzingen (Marstallstraße 51, 68723 Schwetzingen). 2. **Bus departure: 1:30 p.m. Please arrive at the museum by 1:15 p.m. to register.** 3. **Duration of the excursion: Approx. 4 hours.** 4. **Return to Schwetzingen: Around 5:30 p.m.** 5. **Participation fee for the excursion:** Donations are requested and payable on site.
