Women Think Politically: Hannah Arendt and the Courage to be Public

As part of the Women's Forum Baar program for International Women's Day and with the support of the Federal President Theodor Heuss House Foundation's "100 Heads of Democracy," Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Müller-Commichau will present the often-quoted Hannah Arendt by outgoing Minister-President Winfried Kretschmann on Sunday, March 15, at 2:30 PM at the Kelnhof Museum. Under the title "Women Think Politically: Hannah Arendt and the Courage to Engage Publicly," the adult educator and educational scientist from Wiesbaden University will discuss Hannah Arendt as a political thinker, her experiences as a Jewish woman during National Socialism, and her understanding of freedom and responsibility. Additionally, the presentation will explore the extent to which her call for courage in public engagement is currently under threat, yet the implementation of her guiding principles remains possible. The digital program "100 Heads of Democracy" is an innovative concept for conveying the history of democracy. It presents 100 women and men who have fought for, shaped, and influenced democracy in Germany through short biographies. The platform does not offer a closed canon but is constantly expanded and rewritten in a dynamic process—similar to democracy itself.
