Vahid, an Azerbaijani mechanic, was once imprisoned by the Iranian regime and repeatedly interrogated with his eyes blindfolded. One day, a man named Eghbal enters his workshop. The squeaking of his leg prosthesis makes Vahid believe he recognizes one of his former tormentors in Eghbal.
The Iranian master director Jafar Panahi, winner of the Golden Bear (Taxi Tehran) and the Golden Lion (The Circle), was awarded the Palme d'Or for Best Film at Cannes 2025 for A SIMPLE ACCIDENT. Despite his long-standing professional ban, Jafar Panahi has once again succeeded in creating a film where humor and seriousness tell a story about today's Iran and those who dare to resist. His winning of the Palme d'Or is not only an artistic triumph but also a significant victory for freedom of expression and speech. In this film, Panahi has also processed his own experiences of imprisonment. On the same day he received three Gotham Awards, his lawyer announced that he had been sentenced in absentia to another year in prison in Iran for "propaganda against the state."
