The scent of an era—hygiene and eroticism in the Baroque period

In the Baroque period, marriages were often arranged for political reasons rather than love. Nevertheless, love and the desire for intimacy did exist. This tour focuses on hygiene and the methods used to ensure well-being. Love and eroticism were not usually decisive factors in marriages in earlier centuries. Money and influence counted, as did the continuation of the family line – even for the counts in Tettnang. And yet contemporary sources tell of love. This tour gives you a taste of everyday life in a time when washing was considered unhealthy and only perfume could dispel odors and vermin. For adults only. Participation in the public tour on fixed dates is possible without registration. Visitors should meet at the museum ticket office, 1st floor, south wing, in the New Palace, Montfortplatz 1, Tettnang, at the specified time. The tour can also be booked at any time for a desired date. The cost is 135 euros per group (up to 15 people). The price for each additional person is €9 (maximum group size 30 people). The New Palace is a representative testimony to the historical development of Tettnang. The residence of the Counts of Montfort on the edge of the old town is one of the most important secular creations of the Rococo period in Upper Swabia.
