He released his first album in 1994. He was 13, a prodigy with the mandolin, a young star of bluegrass. This style of country and western music is just one of many genres in which Chris Thile, born in Oceanside, California, set standards.
In 2006, he founded the band Punch Brothers, with which he, "equally inspired by the mind and the heart," not only elevated bluegrass "to the next evolutionary level," as the Washington Post raved.
In the USA, he became a nationwide celebrity when he hosted the radio show "Live From Here" (formerly the legendary "Prairie Home Companion") for four years, where musicians like Paul Simon introduced their new songs. Above all, his own songs with imaginative, literarily ambitious lyrics, as well as extraordinary cover versions from Bach to Nirvana and Radiohead, distinguish Thile as a bandleader and solo artist.
