Minoritenplatz 4, 3500 Stein an der Donau

In the creation myth of ancient Babylon, Apsu represents fresh water as well as a "cosmic sweet water ocean." In the production "apsu," a story emerges with new texts written by Matthias Loibner. However, this story does not have a linear plot. The water, in a sense, tells of itself, its different states of matter, its significance for living beings, and its endangerment. Water possesses a unique variety of rhythms, melodies, and even chords.

The ideal musical ensemble for this is the trio Brot & Sterne, which has been undertaking enchanting sound journeys for over a decade, whether in pure concerts or genre-crossing projects such as audiobooks or this world premiere. The very distinctive sound bodies of trumpet and hurdy-gurdy are gently transported into other sound worlds by subtle electronics. The percussion adds many vibrant colors to the mix.

The Irish video and media artist Lillevan, based in Berlin—who has already performed in the Klangraum multiple times—can certainly be considered the fourth musician of the evening. For him, intensity and structure are more important than a story or a character. Lillevan sees his contribution as an instrument that neither merely accompanies nor overshadows the acoustic sounds, but stands alongside them as a partner.

Words from an extraordinary poet open the evening and thus the festival: Julian Schutting has prepared a new text on the themes of water and transience.
