Climate Change and Energy Transition: Current Status, Challenges, and Opportunities

Climate change poses enormous challenges for politics, the economy, and society. In his lecture, Dr.-Ing. Peter Schäfer provides a clear overview of the connections between global warming and CO2 emissions from fossil energy sources, and demonstrates how concrete climate goals and strategies for the energy transition can be derived from this. He examines the fundamentals of energy generation and usage, the expansion of renewable energies, the role of green hydrogen and electric mobility, as well as the opportunities and challenges for Germany as an industrial location. In conclusion, he focuses on the key areas of action for the sustainable transformation of our economic system. Dr.-Ing. Peter Schäfer studied and obtained his doctorate at the University of Stuttgart and worked for many years as a manager in the automotive industry, most recently as managing director of Porsche Engineering Group GmbH. Since his retirement, he has been actively engaged in various areas (including as chairman of the board of trustees of the Research Institute for Automotive Engineering and Vehicle Engines Stuttgart at the University of Stuttgart) and is intensively dedicated to the topics of climate change and the energy transition.
