Behind the scenes: the Tuttlingen wood chip plant

Led by: Michael Hager, Forester A step into an energy-autonomous future The energy transition in Tuttlingen is based on several components: In addition to wind power and photovoltaics, the municipal forest also makes an important contribution to becoming independent of gas, oil, and coal power in the future and reducing CO₂ emissions. The centerpiece of this approach is the modern wood chip plant. Here, residual wood from the municipal forest is processed into wood chips, dried, and used for district heating supply. The drying process is environmentally friendly – the moisture is removed from the wood solely by the heat of the sun.
