Ludwig van Beethoven: Sonata in C minor, Op. 13 "Pathetique" Sonata in F minor, Op. 57 "Appassionata" In the winter of 1840, destitute and nearly unknown, a young Richard Wagner writes the narrative of his "Pilgrimage," a fictional, adventurous journey from Leipzig to his idol Beethoven in Vienna. In great reverence for the long-deceased master, this journey becomes a true pilgrimage, an entertaining story full of wit that also offers insights into a composer whom one would not have expected to possess such humor – and which ultimately reveals almost more about its author than about the master himself. The fusion of Erwin Steinhauer's storytelling with two of Beethoven's most famous sonatas ultimately unveils the true theme: music.
