Fotoskopia is a newly established exhibition series that showcases positions in contemporary photography outside of major art centers, bringing them to places where they have previously been little represented. For six months at a time, spaces are utilized that often create unexpected contrasts and refer to their own history. The first project takes place on the upper floor of the Museum Schiefes Haus in Wernigerode (Harz). In this historic half-timbered building, usually used by the Wernigerode Cultural Foundation, everyday objects and technical models are presented, as well as changing art exhibitions. Fotoskopia enables cultural participation at this location through encounters with young graduates from photography programs and internationally successful artists. The selected artistic works aim to provide access to various thematic fields and stimulate dialogue about art and society. The curatorial team consists of photographers Tim Bruns and Anika Spereiter, who grew up in Wernigerode, and photo historian Annekathrin Müller, who lives in Leipzig.

The first exhibition: On October 11, 2025, the first fotoskopia exhibition will open under the title "Inventory – Of Things and Images," featuring works by Tabea Borchardt, Caroline Heinecke, and Xu Guanyu. In interaction with the conditions at the Museum Schiefes Haus Wernigerode, the presented artistic positions raise new questions about the nature of collections and archiving practices, reflecting on these through the medium of photography. They share a focus on contemplating everyday objects that are preserved, photographed, and transformed into personal orders. Furthermore, individual attributions of meaning and modifiable narratives become visible as all three artists engage with the arrangement, re-arrangement, and re-ordering of photographic images.
