Liebfrauenkirchhof 5, 38855 Wernigerode

Martin Schulze, known as the "Bicycle Cantor," will perform for the first time on the historic Sauer organ at the Liebfrauenkirche concert hall. In keeping with the romantic structure of the organ and the liturgical season, this concert will primarily feature organ works from the 19th century, including Passion and Easter music by Max Reger and Sigfrid Karg-Elert. In honor of the 100th birthday of the long-time Greifswald church musician Manfred Schlenker, a variation work by him will be included in the program. The concert will be framed by the Fantasy and Fugue in G minor BWV 542 by Johann Sebastian Bach, a composition that musically bridges the gap from the crucifixion to the resurrection. In addition to his organist activities throughout Germany, Martin Schulze also works as an organ expert in Brandenburg and as an organ scholar. Since Martin Schulze has been traveling to his concert venues across Germany primarily by racing bike for the past 27 years, covering approximately 15,000 km a year, he has earned the now-protected title "Bicycle Cantor."
