Lung Qigong - Strengthening and Harmonizing Breath Energy (Qi)
The Special Effect of Lung Qigong by the Sea
The sea as a practice location for Lung Qigong offers unique conditions. The fresh, salty air, the sound of the waves, and the vastness of the landscape create an atmosphere that invites deep breathing and inner calm. From the perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Lung Qigong is particularly effective for respiratory diseases, such as Long Covid symptoms. The salty air by the sea additionally supports the respiratory system and makes breathing easier. For example, many participants report that after a Qigong session on the beach, they can breathe more freely and feel more relaxed. The natural environment also promotes concentration and well-being.
① The Metal Element: The Lungs and Autumn
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the lungs are associated with the Metal element. Metal represents clarity, structure, and the transition from summer to autumn. This is a time for harvesting – both in nature and in one’s own life. The lungs ensure our breath flow and help to let go of the old, making space for the new.
② The Water Element: The Kidneys and Retreat
The Water element is associated with the kidneys in TCM. It symbolizes retreat, regeneration, and the essence of life. Water represents winter, the beginning of a new cycle in which energy is gathered. The kidneys store life energy (Qi) and thus form the basis for health and vitality.
③ Connection of Metal and Water in Lung Qigong
Lung Qigong by the sea combines the qualities of both elements. The exercises strengthen the lungs, promote breathing, and support the regeneration of the kidneys. The ebb and flow, the fresh sea air, and the waters of the North Sea create ideal conditions for harmonizing with the elements during Lung Qigong. The natural forces enhance the effects of the exercises and help to let the Qi flow freely.
④ Traditional Chinese Medicine and Practical Benefits
Lung Qigong by the sea unites the power of the Metal and Water elements with millennia-old knowledge of TCM. It offers a wonderful opportunity to strengthen body and mind and sustainably support one’s respiratory system.
