The five-story building with the baroque brick facade in the heart of Otterndorf is one of the most significant architectural monuments along the Lower Elbe and represents the former prosperity and economic strength of the Hadeln region. The house features the symbol of the crane, which is regarded as a sign of diligence and commercial vigilance, on the roof and above the door. Today, the Crane House primarily houses the museum of the old Hadeln region, which showcases the small-town and rural living culture from around 1550 to 1850. For example, during this time, there were nearly fifty goldsmith workshops in Otterndorf, whose outstanding results are displayed in the Crane House.
