With "Metropolitan Baroque," the Museum of Non-Objective Art presents the first German museum exhibition of the internationally renowned Hungarian artist Márton Nemes (1986, Székesfehérvár). The artist, who lives in New York and Budapest, is considered one of the most innovative voices in contemporary abstract art. Following his spectacular appearance at the Hungarian Pavilion of the Venice Biennale 2024, the museum now offers a comprehensive insight into his multifaceted, energetic oeuvre.

Nemes combines painting, sculpture, installation, and sound into vibrant spatial compositions. His works shine, reflect, and pulse – they draw on influences from urban architecture, techno culture, and digital imagery, transforming them into an expansive, sensual experience. Between analog gesture and digital aesthetics, immersive works emerge that continually question the relationship between surface, space, and perception – abstract painting in the age of digitalization. The exhibition addresses the connection between urban energy and baroque opulence, club culture and spiritual ecstasy. Nemes' art reflects how identity, perception, and community change in a present shaped by light, sound, and movement.

With "Metropolitan Baroque," the Museum of Non-Objective Art continues its thematic focus on the dialogue between abstraction, light, and digital transformation – positioning itself as a place for new forms of non-objective art.

What is special about the exhibition is the traceable artistic development of recent years: from 2020 to today, Nemes has steadily expanded his language – moving towards even more intense color spaces, complex material layers, and immersive installations. New works are being created for the exhibition, which will be presented to the public for the first time. Márton Nemes studied painting in Budapest and graduated with an MFA from Chelsea College of Arts in London. His works have been shown, among others, at the Ludwig Museum Budapest, Marc Straus Gallery New York, Walter Storms Gallery Munich, and Double Q Gallery Hong Kong. In 2019, he received the Esterházy Art Prize. His works are part of prestigious collections such as the Kunstpalast Düsseldorf, Ludwig Museum Budapest, MODEM Debrecen, and the art collection of the Hungarian National Bank.

Nemes represents a new generation of abstract art that transforms societal themes such as digitalization, urbanity, and subculture into a vibrant, multisensory experience – art that makes the space resonate.
