Concert in the Prince's Hall: Trio Ariadne

The Trio Ariadne was founded following the German Music Competition 2024 as part of the concert promotion by the German Music Council. The trio is characterized by its unusual instrumentation: the oboe and the horn are the voices that come closest to the human voice. Therefore, it was clear to the trio early in the conceptualization that they wanted to reference literature and poetry in one of their programs. The specific impetus for this program was August Klughardt's "Schilflieder" (originally for oboe, viola, and piano). Klughardt does not set the text directly to music; rather, he reflects the moods of the poems in the eponymous cycle by the late Romantic poet Nikolaus Lenau with his music. This combination of literature and music forms the framework of the program – the journey in between traverses various character pieces by Clara and Robert Schumann, while at the center lies a selection from Max Bruch's Eight Pieces op. 83 (originally for clarinet, viola, and piano). "The poet speaks," says Robert Schumann – in our program, he is meant to do so in both music and poetry equally.
