Esens and its treasures

The current town hall, a listed building, is one of the oldest houses in Esens. Its present form dates back to the 18th century. After being used as a private palace, it became a widow's pension and only later was converted into the current town hall. The restored ancestral hall serves as a representation space for the city and as a wedding room. It still reflects the wealth of its builder today. The St. Magnus Church is one of the largest churches in East Frisia. Together with the marketplace, it forms the historical core of our city. Towering high on an artificial elevation, the church features beautiful architecture, centuries-old treasures from previous buildings, and a highly regarded organ. Numerous paintings can be seen, as well as the sarcophagus of an East Frisian chieftain from the 15th century.
