The little, somewhat chubby Hans-Peter grows up sheltered in the Ruhr area. Especially his grandparents - on both his mother’s and father’s side - take loving care of him. At school, he is an outsider, but within his family, not only during the numerous celebrations, he stands out with his humor and funny parodies of the people he encounters in his grandparents' shop. His carefree childhood darkens when his mother falls ill and loses her joy for life.
