This big band has a special connection to the stars of swing music: Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and Benny Goodman – the Swing Orchestra Hannover plays the most famous pieces from the great big bands of the swing era of the 1930s and 1940s. But many other musical styles are also included in the versatile program: rhythmic pieces from Latin America, well-known jazz-rock titles, or interesting original works for this ensemble can be heard. In short: everything a big band can play!
The Swing Orchestra Hannover has a unique and special lineup: in addition to the classic big band, flutes and clarinets are added to round out the band's sound. Each piece is therefore a tailor-made arrangement for this orchestra. Since 1987, about 25 musicians have been playing together under the direction of Volker Schulz – and they aim not only to entertain the audience but also to have fun making music themselves. And having fun is essential for such a leisure ensemble. The singer Dörte Blase is a permanent member of the Swing Orchestra Hannover, and she consistently manages to captivate the audience with songs by Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie, or Henry Mancini.
