Extraordinary open-air concerts in the colorfully illuminated courtyard of Schwöbber Castle promise once again magical summer nights with a high-caliber concert offering in the genres of swing, classical, and jazz.
On August 21, "Opera re:told" – "Carmen" is not sung, but retold. For the fifth anniversary of our own classical concert series "Opera re:told," we want to delight the audience with George Bizet's masterpiece "Carmen." We are back in Seville, just like in 2023 with Figaro, and this time it’s once again about men and women, or rather women and men, love, and everything that comes with it. Perfectly suited for an interpretation by Frederic Böhle against the backdrop of Schwöbber Castle. But since the wedding of Figaro and Almaviva, nearly a hundred years have passed, and things have become a bit more complicated. "These Andalusians scare me. I'm not used to their way, always mocking, never a sensible word," he says. "Love is a wild bird that a man cannot tame," she says. It actually sounds like a conversation in couples therapy. And then there’s the torero who expects hearts to come flying to him without question. He might also need to lie down on the couch. So we see: It’s high time for an intervention! For which we naturally depend on your active assistance! Who knows, maybe thanks to you, we can achieve a happy ending. Celebrate the anniversary with us and look forward to the fifth part of the "Opera re:told" series with "Carmen." As always, not sung, but in a new guise: simply and straightforwardly with the brass ensemble Gutenberg Winds and narrated by actor Frederic Böhle.
On August 22, Matti Klein Soul Trio meets Max Mutzke in a jazz open-air concert in the illuminated castle courtyard.
Upon closer inspection, there is more to Max Mutzke than just a single artist. Max is many. This has to do with the incredible versatility and, not least, the insatiable creative curiosity of the charismatic singer and songwriter. Whether pop, rock, soul, funk, or, as here, jazz – Max Mutzke possesses many musical facets. The soulful groove-jazz mix served by groove virtuoso Matti Klein, along with Lars Zander (saxophone and bass clarinet) and André Seidel, his companion from "Mo’ Blow" days, has as many facets as Max Mutzke himself. With his various vintage keyboards and on the piano, Matti Klein has earned his reputation as one of the most interesting young groove jazzers in the German scene. He regularly shares the stage and studio with stars like Sarah Connor and Herbert Grönemeyer. The program "Matti Klein Soul Trio & Max Mutzke" promises grooves to dance to and lyrics to ponder, closeness to great artists of the German groove and soul landscape, and passion!
