Impulse Paula On the occasion of the 150th birthday of Paula Modersohn-Becker February 7 to November 1, 2026 In 2025, Paula Modersohn-Becker and her companions will be the focus of the exhibition activities of the four Worpswede museums. This tribute to the most significant artist from Worpswede on the occasion of her 150th birthday will continue in 2026 with another joint exhibition. It is part of the multi-year project "TURNING POINT. Art in Transition in a World of Change" (2022 - 2027), which uses the anniversaries of central artistic personalities to connect artistic traditions and groundbreaking historical innovations with current artistic movements and societal issues. Starting from one work by Paula Modersohn-Becker in each of the four museums, the curators of the four museums embark on artistic journeys under the title "Impulse Paula." Following various thematic threads, they present artworks that can be viewed and understood in the context of the impulses that Paula Modersohn-Becker set with her life and work, and which have significance for current art events and their societal reception. Images of People At Barkenhoff, a dialogue unfolds between portraits from more than a century - from expressive self-examinations to documentary photography to contemporary positions. Portraits are much more than mere representations of people: they serve as cultural codes, mirrors of societal norms, and expressions of personal as well as collective ideas.
