Tormented by jealousy, jazz musician Fred Madison seems to have brutally slaughtered his wife Renee. Unable to remember the act, he ends up convicted in prison. There, he disappears without a trace, and a young auto mechanic with memory loss continues to live his nightmare, in which the murdered Renee appears to come back to life.
