Opening of the Pünten season

To mark the opening of the 2026 ferry season, guests can once again look forward to a colorful program lovingly put together by the Püntenverein. The ferry... For over 450 years, the hand-pulled ferry (Treidelpünte) has crossed the Jümme at the confluence of the Leda and Jümme rivers in Wiltshausen. The ferry was first mentioned in writing in 1562, and its design has remained the same since then. The visitors of today differ greatly from those who came to this area 450 years ago. Back then, the "Pünte" was an important link between the land on this side and the other side of the Jümme and Leda, as there were no bridges over these rivers. Thus, the main trade and travel route from Westphalia to East Frisia passed over the Treidelpünte at Amdorf-Wiltshausen, along the so-called Lüdeweg, which led over Backemoor to this point at the confluence (Leda-Jümme). It is hard to imagine how many travel and mail coaches once took this route over the ferry. Today, after more than 450 years, our ferry is at least as well-known as it was then, although it no longer holds such strategic importance for traffic. It now serves as an attraction for vacationers and tourists. The ferry operating times begin on May 1st and end on October 1st. And so, on May 1st, when the season opens, it is once again "Fährmann hol over!" Ferry times: Wednesday - Friday approximately 10:00 AM - approximately 5:30 PM Saturday and Sunday approximately 10:00 AM - approximately 5:30 PM The ferry crosses a tidal waterway!
