Nessestr. 1, 26789 Leer (Ostfriesland)

Since 1508, the Galliviehmarkt has traditionally taken place in Leer. Alongside the colorful supporting program of the Gallimarkt, the Galliviehmarkt is held on the grounds of the East Frisian Cattle Breeders' Association. The market is unique in its character and is one of the largest livestock markets in Europe. Traders and spectators from all over Germany, as well as neighboring countries, gather in Leer once a year for the Galliviehmarkt. There are even traders who have been attending the market for over 45 years. More than a hundred livestock traders from the East Frisian region and the surrounding counties have been contacted by the market administration and informed about this year's Galliviehmarkt. The lively activity in and around the Galliviehmarkt, as well as the small animal exhibition and the "rolling museum" from Münkeboe, are also interesting. For example, coopers, blacksmiths, and wheelwrights will demonstrate how and under what circumstances work was done in the past. The buying negotiations, which are still conducted by handshake today just like in old times, are particularly observed by onlookers. The livestock drive begins on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at 3:00 PM and on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at 6:00 AM. The actual livestock market takes place on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, starting at 6:00 AM. Therefore, anyone who wants to experience the special "flair" of the Galliviehmarkt should not sleep in. If they are interested in selling, they must make their way to the Galliviehmarkt early on Wednesday morning.
