Opening event of the Johann Heinrich Voß anniversary year - 275th birthday
In celebration of the 270th birthday of Ernestine Voß, a reading with Clarissa Ross and Kerstin von Schwerin
Ernestine Voß, née Boie (1756-1834), grew up in a Protestant parsonage and was the wife of the poet, philologist, and translator of Homer, Johann Heinrich Voß. She was not only the mother of five sons and a "faithful assistant" to her often irritable husband. In addition to an extensive correspondence, she authored a number of biographical, educational, and literary texts, of which only a few were published during her lifetime. Two studies published in 2006 and 2016 honor Ernestine Voß and demonstrate that she was more than just the devoted "housemother" and guardian of the "Vossian domestic idyll."
