Has globalization reached its peak? Lecture by Prof. emeritus Dr. Ulrich Menzel

The much-praised globalization is in crisis in light of the economic war that Trump has waged against the "rest of the world," particularly against China. It is also in crisis due to the fact that there are not only winners but also losers, and that it significantly contributes to climate change and a growing populism, resulting in domestic political upheavals. The lecture will demonstrate that globalization is not an inevitable consequence of technological change in transport and communication, but also requires the liberal institutions and regulatory doctrines that promote it. When these are called into question and come under attack, as many historical examples show, the world tends to fragment.
