Johann Friedrich Wilhelm Jerusalem as a Foundational Figure of Theological Enlightenment. In four complementary approaches, the lecture explains the groundbreaking significance of the Braunschweig Enlightenment theologian Johann Friedrich Wilhelm Jerusalem (1709–1789) in an accessible manner. It highlights his programmatic, far-reaching central impulses as well as his comprehensive dynamic networking, his far-sighted advocacy for the unification of Christian churches, and his modernity-promoting transformation of the doctrine of the person and religious function of Jesus Christ. The resulting image of a consistently stimulating Enlightener grants the theologian Jerusalem a critically respectful memorial as an impetus for Neology.
