More parts are not possible: The world of black art with millions of letters. Where the Böhme newspaper was printed until the early 1970s, the new active museum for letterpress printing is located. It is centrally situated at the Rathaus intersection in the middle of Soltau's "Museum Archipelago." Do you know the difference between Fraktur, Antiqua, and Grotesk? Would you like to explore the characters of old fonts, perhaps even try something yourself? No prior knowledge is required. Visitors will find hundreds of fonts waiting to be brought to life in a practical way. Those who want to set and print actively should make an appointment so that the little diligent lead louse can prepare everything. The ideal group size is 6 to 8 people, but larger groups can also be accommodated with advance notice. Larger groups, such as school classes, should definitely split up and use the offerings of the play museum or felto in parallel. We are happy to assist in arranging a special event. Since 2018, letterpress printing has been part of Germany's intangible cultural heritage. The museum works with fully functional printing presses, a typesetting machine, and even a historical Dingler press from around 1845. Without an appointment, "Die Bleilaus" offers ongoing tours of various types and lengths: How exactly did the rescue operation of hundreds of fonts take place? How did two retail spaces become a museum? Was Gutenberg really the inventor of movable type? Is a lead-louse picture gallery enough to understand everything about letterpress printing? And what is actually the family tree of the lice...? The museum stands for inclusion. The new rooms feature a barrier-free side entrance, a disabled restroom, a typesetting table for wheelchair users, a floor guidance system, and typesetting boxes labeled in Braille. In addition to the typesetting and printing area, there is an event space for readings, music, catering, and small celebrations, accommodating about 30 people.
